If I dwell on the pain of yesterday It’s like it’s happening all over again When really it’s over and done Doesn’t take away the heavy burden No need to get high off nostalgia No need to relive yesterday Prefer to live in the present time Kinda like to keep it that way No, I don’t believe in yesterday A wise man said don’t keep replaying past hurts and abuses That you have suffered through For in revisiting them you can only prolong the pain And hatred never ceases that way I believe we can learn contentment In a land that prefers to complain If we could see the good things happening in our lives And appreciate the food prepared upon our plates Maybe we could notice the smearing of clouds on a cool morning Just before the sunrise See the turtles hanging out on the logs as they soak up the sun In the middle of the lake See turtles sunbathe May lovingkindness fill all of us May you feel at ease May you be well in your mind and body May you feel something like happiness May broken relations be repaired If we can live wisely I think that could be enough To ensure our survival Overcoming depression and anger that can only bring us down Lovingkindness is the key to keeping our hearts from hardening Overlooking personal differences and responding with understanding In the now In the now In the now

BuddhaChrist 06:26
Lighter than light Like a BuddhaChrist Where the east meets the west Clear up foggy eyes Dropping all disguise Ancient truths hidden away Bring words to life no longer misinterpreted By literal minds who cannot understand Open hearts and minds To wisdom and mercy Like a BuddhaChrist Putting words into practice We grow in pure awareness Long hair of white Eyes like blazing fire He walks with feet of bronze Said we should not judge Or cast pearls before swine They will tear you to pieces Not a teacher of law, but on his own authority Like difficult Zen koans he taught through his parables Across the divide We row to the other side Leaving the crowds behind Immersed in profound stillness In greener pastures we find our lambs Freeing us from dogma The mystery must remain Rebuking the wind Commanding the waves To be still Open hearts and minds To wisdom and mercy Like a BuddhaChrist Putting words into practice With a steady mind Enter the flow of life Then you will do Greater things than I Look deep inside To the inner quiet

Early Spring 03:56
Lately I have grown in despair of ever being heard Discouraged the situation has not changed for the better We fail to live beyond distraction Reviewing a life’s work that may amount to nothing at all I am like the silence of a snow-covered street Calmly abiding I am like a lighting flash appearing and Vanishing fast Failing to address or take care of our inner mess Covering our true feelings Wearing clever masks While our bodies manifest disease Yes our bodies tell a different story I am like a boundless sky with thoughts like clouds Just passing by I’m still alive in early spring The birds have come Like flutes they sing I thought that I could help you But I must have been mistaken I can’t hope to help A distracted generation In these early hours These early hours Of spring

The Robin 03:57
You are the first to sing your song in the morning An early song I have heard many times before When I walk by you may just skitter away But you don’t fly ‘cause that worm you can’t ignore The Robin flies high above me From tree to tree with your bright orange-red breast Now banding together Surviving not alone Protected from predators They find their nest Where do you come from oh migratory bird? I know your songs can only last so long Will you leave your home here around winter time? Where will you lay your eggs in spring and sing your song? Oh Robin, what can I learn from you? How to live more abundantly in this life Thriving and living with the other birds Away from danger Not alone will you fly Ohh Robin please don’t run away Ohh I only want to observe you Ohh-oh-oh Robin please don’t fly away Not on my account For I mean you no harm Oh the Robin flies high above me From tree to tree with your bright orange-red breast Now banding together Surviving not alone Protected from predators They find their nest Oh Robin, you have found your nest

On the longest day of the year I will be Grateful for the everlasting light of the sun Thankful for the teachers of wisdom for guiding me Away from self-destruction Towards equanimity Thankful for changing clouds And the world’s impermanence Thankful for rain fall Refreshing the sun-scorched lands Cooling the heat On the longest day of the year I will be Grateful for the leaf-bearing trees providing their shade Thankful for fish that jump into the freedom of the air Thankful for the dragonfly’s sudden appearance as the day Slowly dies With gratitude for everything I replace my desires within me And vanquish my worrying Like the sun that won’t discriminate But shines on everyone As morning breaks, pieces of sunlight begin to form on the trees As I sit and eat my breakfast, my silent meditation carries on And every bird sings a song Thankful for friends I’ve made On the pathway of life Thankful for breathing in and out And for truly being alive With gratitude for everything For music bringing comfort and healing I’m thankful for your presence now For all of your attention Thank you for listening Thank you

about

BuddhaChrist is born of practice and with inspiration from reading The Wisdom Jesus by Cynthia Bourgeault. My aim in combining Buddhist and Christian teachings are to transcend religion altogether with the hope of seeing Jesus in a new and consequently more true light than what the church teaches. Songs like Early Spring serve to bring awareness to the disappointment of a meaningless kind of existence, especially in light of a dehumanized and egocentric music industry, one that I feel I am not a part of. Hopefully these songs will inspire the listener towards embracing qualities and practices like that of Lovingkindness and an appreciation of nature.
